Nine Program development head David Lyle has long been interested in developing the debates. So too is Greg Berness, executive producer in special projects.

Referring to last week's effort, which had the Clintonesque title of That You Must Sin To Win, Berness said: "It rated very well, it had nice demographics, especially for a Thursday night when everyone should have been away."

The panel included Democrat senator Natasha Stott Despoja who Berness described as awesome.

Another Nine insider was equallu effusive saying: "If she ever decides to get out of politics, there's a career in television waiting for her."

Fellow panellist Paul McDermott has also caused serious ripple of interest among Nine's executive ranks, many of whom are fans of Good News Week, the show he hosts for the ABC.
